Here I am, writing my first Artistic Director's note. Having leafed through Stratford programs, it's always interesting to read the AD note. Usually it's about the theme of the season. Well, here goes:
If there is a theme for this 'truncated season', I suppose it would be a passion for theatre. Whether watching the three hapless players struggle their way through the 'Complete Works of Shakespeare (abridged)' or watching nine equally hapless players try to put on their production of Nothing's On in 'Noises Off', there is this indomitable spirit to perform, to express something to an audience.
It might be mad: going from a show with no set, garden lighting, and dollar store props - and ending with a prohibitively expensive show, like this one you're about to see.
There is method to this madness, though sometimes the method obscures any sense and it just seems plain madness. It has been a year of learning and, as Artistic Director, I have been something of a Whip, pushing that curve to its extreme.
How can this be feasible, this single-mindedness, this vain determination? I am fortunate to have some great support. First, a Board that is aggressive in its balancing of the books and the acquiring of funds to keep this machine going. Also, being blessed with a General Manager like Peter Billing. He not only believes in the vision of the Company, he has the knowledge, skills, and acumen to make this all happen. But nothing would be happening at all if it wasn't for a troupe of dedicated actors brave enough to join me in this.
I welcome you to the end of Ghost Light Players' first year, and please, come back for our even more ambitious second season. As you will learn, Ghost Light Players will always be challenging, not just you, with exciting theatrical productions, but ourselves as well. May we continue our Mission to proudly represent our Community with the best theatre possible.

A Message from the Artistic Director

A Message from the Artistic DirectorBy now you all know what a fantastic Company we are building and the great successes our productions have been throughout the City of Windsor and Essex County. As per our mission statement, “Ghost Light Players engage, inspire, challenge and entertain audiences with theatrical productions that range from classical works to new productions from local playwrights and everything in between; we are supporting and promoting our current generation of artists while paving a path for future generations from within the community; we provide artistic opportunities that promote a life-long learning to a diverse community; and are constantly celebrating the essential power of the theatre to illuminate and illustrate our common humanity. In short, we are creating theatre without fear.” Now, it’s time for us to grow again and we are looking to further engage our communities by offering volunteer opportunities. We will post these in a timely fashion so that you may take advantage of them. Volunteer opportunities could include putting up posters, or stopping by for an hour to help with set building or decoration, helping backstage or with tickets or with duties during a fundraiser. It could be selling tickets to fundraisers or shows, or simply passing on warm leads for potential sponsors or advertisers. Which leads me to the equally important method of supporting the efforts of Ghost Light Players – participation in our fundraising events and attendance at our first rate performances. With that in mind, I'm pleased to invite you to our next two events: “Family Feud” fundraising event, October 15, 2016 at Walkerville Brewery “Voices of Vimy”, written by local playwright John Conlon. Being performed at The Bank Theatre, Leamington on November 11, 12, 13 and at “Sho” Art, Spirit, Performance on November 17, 18, 19 Event details at the following links: Voices of Vimy Presented by Ghost Light Players Family Feud (with MackFlash) We are very passionate about this Company!
